Communication Access for All - Practical AAC Tools

  • The Inclusive Movement 2/1 Sharpe Avenue Karratha, WA, 6714 Australia (map)

Join Carol Hegan for a practical 90-minute webinar about AAC, communication access and everyday participation.

Communication access depends on more than the method a person uses. It also depends on whether their communication tools are available, whether other people allow enough time, and whether the environment makes room for different ways of responding.

In this practical 90-minute webinar, Carol Hegan from The Inclusive Movement will explore Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in everyday life. We will look beyond devices to the full range of ways people communicate, including gesture, facial expression, movement, objects, photos, symbols, writing, sign, apps and speech-generating devices.

The session focuses on practical support. You will learn how to notice access barriers before they stop participation, how to model and wait without turning communication into a test, how to respond to the meaning of a message, and how to offer more than one way to take part.

You will leave with:

  • a clear understanding of AAC as multimodal communication

  • a simple communication access check for everyday environments

  • partner habits that support autonomy and reduce pressure

  • ideas for offering multiple ways to participate

  • one communication access change to continue beyond October
