What is AAC?

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes all the different ways people communicate without spoken words. From picture symbols and communication boards to iPad apps and gestures, AAC helps millions of people express themselves, connect with others, and participate fully in their community.

Myth buster: AAC doesn’t replace speech – it supports communication and understanding.

The Workplace Challenge

This October, we’re challenging workplaces across Australia to take part in our AAC Workplace Challenge. For one day, swap spoken words for AAC tools and experience the power – and challenges – of communicating in different ways.

By participating, your team will:

- Build empathy and awareness for AAC users

- Learn practical strategies for inclusive communication

- Start important conversations about accessibility in the workplace

  • Steps for creating an impactful AAC awareness experience in the workplace, including choosing a day to go speech-free, selecting tools, setting ground rules, reflecting as a team, and sharing stories.
